Baker Act attorney Mark Astor was recently featured on CBS12 News following a high-profile arrest at the Stonewall Pride Parade and Festival in Wilton Manors, Florida. The incident involved 31-year-old Michael Monheit, who attempted to enter the event with a loaded Glock 43 handgun and two extra magazines. Law enforcement later confirmed that Monheit’s concealed carry permit had been revoked due to a prior detainment under Florida’s Baker Act.
Mark Astor, a mental health law specialist and experienced Baker Act attorney, provided legal insight into why Monheit should not have been in possession of a firearm at the time of the incident.
“This individual would not have been permitted to possess a firearm because of the Baker Act,” said Mark Astor, mental health specialist and attorney at Astor Simovitch Law. “Carrying a loaded firearm and ammunition, so he can reload, that’s not somebody we want coming into that type of community.”
